Review of Christmas Hymns Word Search

To be honest, I just don’t review books anymore. I don’t read fiction because it makes me nervous and when I read non-fiction I’m devouring everything I can about a subject and I don’t take the time (like I should) to write a review.

But you all know I’ve been on the hunt for stocking stuffers lately and one of the things I do every year is buy large print word searches for my mother-in-law, usually a few of them because she can complete them pretty quickly.

I get emails all the time from people who like to chat with me about all the things I ramble about in the newsletter and a couple weeks ago one of them mentioned to me that they made puzzle books. Feeling like my mother-in-law’s stocking was still a little on the light side, I purchased it without telling her.

It’s a beautiful book. I like beautiful books. Don’t we all? The inside is black and white but the ornate decorations aren’t line drawings like you’d find in a coloring book, they’re black and white images and I think it’s made all the difference in this book. And that’s what’s great about publishing books on your own, you can dress them up as you see fit, not just do what everyone else is doing or whatever is the cheapest to produce.

And it’s actually a large print. I never thought much about large print until I needed bi-focals and now I truly understand what a difference the size of the font makes, especially to the enjoyment of a puzzle book. Each puzzle is based on a Christmas hymn, so on one side you have the words to the hymn and on the other you have your puzzle with the word bank beneath. This was perfect for my mother-in-law because she has several old hymnals she’s collected over the years and loves to sing in church. Having a set of Christmas song lyrics in one place is handy aside from the puzzles.

Another thing I noticed about this book is that even the solutions in the back are larger than most, with only two to a page. I’m sure my mother-in-law is going to love this as a gift and I saw on the back that there were more in this hymns series aside from this one that I’m sure she’ll enjoy in the future.
