A Christmas Tradition: We always take an entire family picture at Christmas. My two children have blossomed into six grandchildren, plus one has a new wife. We always include the dogs. My own Shih Tzu, my sons two boy mutts, and my granddaughter’s goldendoodle and cocker. We use our curved stairway which circles our Christmas tree. Sometimes we all wear pjs and other times we dress a bit. Everyone looks forward to the annual picture after the big Christmas turkey dinner.
I’m most grateful for this holiday season: It’s difficult to hone down my gratefulness to one thing but I so thankful God has blessed our family during this difficult year. So far no one in my family has contracted COVID and none has lost their jobs. The Lord has protected us and blessed us.
My favorite goody I indulge in during Christmas: Again, it’s almost impossible to figure from all the goodies we eat at this season down to one favorite. My daughter and I bake a lot of cookies, pies, and yeast bread during this season. I think the one goody I would miss most if we didn’t celebrate it would be our annual Christmas Cookie Exchange. Everyone in the family bakes their favorite cookies and we all exchange them on Christmas Eve, so everyone takes home some of the cookies the others baked. I’ve wanted to expand on this every year by. Inviting the neighbors in for a Cookie Exchange, but to date haven’t made this work yet. Still, one day, I hope to. Favorite Christmas Tradition is decorating the house, especially putting out my large collection of nutcrackers. We now have a new decorating tradition of setting up a smaller, 5 ft tree just for our lighthouse ornaments, most of which came from lighthouses we’ve visited.
Marilyn is most grateful for family gatherings and the fact that most of our children live nearby and can attend Christmas Eve candlelight service with us.
Marilyn has several favorite Christmas goodies. One is her chocolate drops, a delicious concoction of cocoa, peanut butter and oatmeal. Marilyn makes two more traditional family treats – a delicious dip that was passed on to the family by a friend of my parents who lived in New Orleans.
